The wait is over for thousands of BCS hopefuls. The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) has released the results of the 50th BCS written exam, with 6,165 candidates provisionally passing and advancing to the final stage of the selection process.
The results were published on the commission’s website on the afternoon of Thursday, July 23, in a notice signed by PSC Public Relations Officer S. M. Motiur Rahman. The PSC had previously indicated that the results would be released during the last week of July, and they were.
Roughly Half Made It Through
The figures clearly reflect the competitiveness of this stage. A total of 12,385 candidates passed the preliminary exam and took the written exam. Of these, 6,165 passed, meaning that almost half of the candidates who took the written exam passed the selection process.
For context, the preliminary exam was held on January 30, and the results were announced on February 10. The written exam took place from April 9 to May 7 in Dhaka and the eight cities of the division.
What “Provisionally Passed” Means
The notice indicates that the selected candidates have been provisionally approved. This is standard Public Service Commission (PSC) terminology: approval is subject to document and eligibility verification during the remaining stages. Nothing is final until the commission completes the selection process and publishes the final results.
Therefore, selected candidates should keep all their certificates, admission cards, and other supporting documents organized and ready.
How to Check Your Result
PSC has made the result available through two channels:
- Online: the full result, along with relevant information, is on the commission’s official website, www.bpsc.gov.bd
- SMS: results can also be checked through Teletalk’s SMS service, following the format announced by the commission
Candidates should verify their roll number carefully against the published list rather than relying on second-hand reports circulating on social media.
Next Stage: The Viva
For the 6,165 selected candidates, one hurdle remains: the oral exam. According to the Public Service Commission (PSC), the oral exam is scheduled for the second week of August, and the detailed schedule will be published soon in newspapers and on the commission’s website.
This gives the candidates a brief but useful preparation period. Oral exam panels typically assess the candidate’s academic background, the position they are applying for, current events, and general knowledge; therefore, reviewing the subject matter and staying informed about national events is time well spent.
What’s at Stake
The 50th BCS recruitment drive will select a total of 2,150 candidates, 1,755 of whom will be career staff positions, with the remainder being non-career positions. With 6,165 candidates vying for these positions, personal interviews will determine who will make the final merit list.
