Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Haque Milan says the institutes are being developed to strengthen links between education and industry.
Dhaka Polytechnic Institute is being developed as a model based on China’s experience of linking education with industry, Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Haque Milan said on Thursday (September 24). Work is also underway to develop Chandpur Polytechnic Institute, he said.
The minister made the remarks at East West University in Dhaka. The event was organised to mark ‘Dhaka China Day 2026’, according to a press release from the Ministry of Education.
Milan said Bangladesh should use China’s experience in technical and vocational education, artificial intelligence (AI), industry-education links and the blue economy.
He said the government is also focusing on solar power and renewable energy. Work is underway on electric vehicles, green technology and modern transport systems.
The minister said Bangladesh could use China’s experience in areas such as robotics and the blue economy. He said Chinese cooperation could also help develop skilled young people.
Addressing students, Milan said the government was working to make them skilled and qualified for the country’s future. He said Bangladesh’s demographic dividend is a major opportunity.
A demographic dividend means the economic opportunity created when a large share of a population is of working age. Milan said the government is taking steps to turn young people into skilled human resources.
He also announced plans to develop Bangladesh as an education hub. Initiatives are being taken to introduce cross-border education and improve higher education through cooperation with international educational institutions.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen said young people could take relations between Bangladesh and China forward. He also spoke about China’s continued cooperation in Bangladesh’s education and development efforts.
East West University Board of Trustees Chairman Professor Dr Md Farasuddin also spoke at the event. University Vice-Chancellor Professor Shams Rahman delivered the welcome address.
The development of the two polytechnic institutes is part of the government’s stated focus on skills and industry links. The initiatives will also support wider efforts in education cooperation and youth skills development.
