Professor Dr. Md. Nurul Islam has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University. He is a professor in the Department of Geography and Environment.
He has also left his post as Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka Central University. The Education Ministry issued a notice on Saturday, September 26.
Md. Sultan Ahmed, an Assistant Secretary at the ministry, signed the notice. It said the President and Chancellor had approved the new post.
Professor Nurul Islam was appointed under Section 11(1) of the Jahangirnagar University Act, 1973. He will serve for four years from the date he joins.
His term will end if he reaches his retirement date before that. He will get the pay and other benefits set for his current post.
The notice said he must stay on the Jahangirnagar University campus full-time. He will also serve as the university’s chief executive.
The President and Chancellor may cancel the post at any time if needed. The notice sets the terms of his post, and he will now join the university.
