80 Students in Satkhira’s Kalaroa Receive Free Bicycles

Students from eight secondary schools received the bicycles under a District Council initiative to support meritorious students.

Eighty meritorious students in Kalaroa, Satkhira, received free bicycles on Thursday, October 1. The students are from grades six to ten at eight secondary schools in the upazila.

The District Council gave the bicycles to support students who ranked first or second in their classes. The handover took place at Kalaroa Government GKMK Pilot High School.

Satkhira District Council Administrator and former Member of Parliament Habibul Islam Habib was the chief guest. Sudip Biswas, acting head teacher of the school, led the event.

S. M. Mahfuzur Rahman, chief executive officer of the District Council, was a special guest. Among the recipients, 43 were female students and 37 were male students.

The students came from eight schools in Kalaroa. They were Kalaroa Government GKMK Pilot High School, Girls Pilot High School, Model High School, Betrabati High School, Sonabaria High School, Bamnakhali High School, Chandanpur High School and Kazirhat High School.

Each school gave bicycles to 10 students. Two students from each class received the gift.

Habibul Islam Habib said the District Council is running aid programs for students. These include scholarships, bicycle support and tree planting. He said the programs aim to help bright students and those from poor families.

He also announced a Tk 200,000 grant from the District Council. The money will be used to build a bicycle garage at Kalaroa Pilot High School.

Sheikh Tamim Azad Marine, a former acting head teacher, conducted the event. Local leaders, school heads, teachers, students and residents also attended.

The bicycle handover is part of the District Council’s student support work in Kalaroa. The school will next use the announced grant to build the bicycle garage.
