The college will now be officially known as Government Sohrawardy College, Pirojpur, to reduce problems caused by differences in its name across government offices.
The National University has corrected the name of Sohrawardy Government College in Pirojpur to Government Sohrawardy College, Pirojpur. The university issued a notification on September 28, and the decision was made public last Tuesday.
The change aims to address problems students faced because different government offices used different names for the same institution. These differences had created difficulties for students applying for educational scholarships and seeking opportunities to study abroad.
According to the notification, the college was previously known to the National University as Sohrawardy Government College, Pirojpur. However, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Barishal, and other offices used the name Government Sohrawardy College, Pirojpur.
The difference in names caused complications when students needed official documents for scholarships or overseas education. To resolve the issue, the National University has adopted the name already used by these offices.
The notification specifies that the college’s official name in English will be GOVT. SOHRAWARDY COLLEGE, PIROJPUR.
The National University has instructed all relevant offices and affiliated educational institutions to take the necessary steps to implement the corrected name.
The change is important for students who need consistent institutional details across academic records and official documents. Using the same name across relevant offices is intended to reduce administrative difficulties during scholarship applications and overseas study procedures.
All relevant offices and affiliated institutions are now expected to follow the corrected name in accordance with the university’s notification.
