The missing scripts have delayed second-year results for about five months and affected the next semester exams.
More than 60 answer scripts from a course at Islamic University are missing. The scripts were from the second-year first-semester examination in the Department of Islamic History and Culture. The missing scripts have delayed the results for about five months. The next semester examinations were also postponed.
The scripts are for Course 2107, History of Modern Europe Till 1848 A.C. The 2023-24 academic year exams ran from May 2 to May 20.
Mark sheets for five of the six courses have reached the examination committee chairman. The results cannot be published because the scripts for Course 2107 are missing.
Dr Shahabul Alam was the internal examiner for the course. He received the scripts on May 11 and finished checking them on May 20. He then returned the scripts to the department.
Professor Dr Emtaz Hossain was to check the scripts as the external examiner. But he could not do so because the scripts could not be found.
Several media reports later blamed Professor Dr Emtaz Hossain for the missing scripts. Those reports said departmental employee Javed Ali had handed the scripts to him. The account is disputed by the department records.
The department keeps a peon book to track the movement of answer scripts. It records each handover and includes the signatures of the people involved.
The record for this course shows that Dr Shahabul Alam returned the scripts after checking them. But there is no signature showing that Professor Dr Emtaz Hossain received the scripts.

Department Chairman Professor Dr Abdul Gafur Gazi said the committee has sent its report to the university Vice-Chancellor. He said further steps would follow the Vice-Chancellor’s instructions.
The department said students’ academic activities would continue in a planned way while the matter is addressed.
