Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon will join the programme as chief guest after accepting an invitation from the university’s vice-chancellor.
Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon, MP, will attend the 34th founding anniversary programme of Bangladesh Open University (BOU) as the chief guest on October 28.
BOU will organise a discussion meeting and an inauguration programme to mark the anniversary. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Chiddikur Rahman Khan invited the education minister during a courtesy meeting at his office at the Secretariat last Wednesday afternoon.
During the meeting, the vice-chancellor handed over the invitation card for the anniversary programme. The education minister accepted the invitation and agreed to attend the event on October 28.
BOU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr Anisur Rahman was also present at the meeting.
Focus on wider access to education
The meeting also covered ways to expand access to education at all levels across Bangladesh. The participants discussed the role of distance education in providing quality education to marginalised and disadvantaged communities.
They also discussed the development of a technology-based education system. The meeting stressed the need to make BOU’s educational and administrative activities more modern, effective and student-friendly.
Distance education can help reach learners who face barriers to attending traditional educational institutions. The discussion therefore placed emphasis on improving access while maintaining education quality.
BOU anniversary programme
