The entrance exam for the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry for the 2026-27 academic year is scheduled for the first week of December, and the Directorate General of Health Education hopes to finalize the date within a week.
Officials from the Ministry of Health and the Directorate General of Health Education announced on Wednesday that a provisional date has been chosen and will now be submitted to the Ministry for approval. Professor Dr. Saki Md Zakiul Alam, Director of Medical Education at the Directorate General of Health Education, indicated that a meeting will be held with the Ministry, and if approved, the final date will be announced two or three days later.
Ministry sources indicate that Friday, December 4, is the most likely date to be confirmed. The decision is still under discussion. If no agreement is reached, the exam will be held on another Friday during the Dhaka University entrance exam period, which begins on December 5.
No date exists yet
That distinction matters more than usual here.
The directorate’s own director called it a probable date, and the ministry has approved nothing. Within hours, aggregator sites will be publishing “Medical Admission Test 4 December” as settled fact, and lakhs of candidates will start booking coaching and travel around it.
Treat 4 December as the strongest indication available and nothing more. Until the directorate’s circular appears on its own website, there is no date.
The December calendar is already crowded
If the test does land on a Friday, the options are 4, 11, 18 and 25 December. Set those against the admission dates already announced and none of them is clear.
- 4 December falls the day before Dhaka University’s IBA unit test on 5 December
- 11 December falls the day before DU’s A unit test on 12 December
- 18 December falls on the same day as MIST’s C unit test and Khulna University’s A and B unit tests
- 25 December falls the day before DU’s C unit test on 26 December
This isn’t a theoretical issue. Almost all medical school applicants are also science applicants to Dhaka University, so a clash of exam dates on the same day eliminates one option entirely, and a clash the following day eliminates any recovery time between two of the year’s toughest exams. The administration hasn’t clarified whether other schedules were considered.
What is not announced
The application dates, fee, number of places, center locations, exam times, eligibility requirements, and score distribution have not yet been announced.
Last year’s figures are already circulating alongside this year’s news, and none have been confirmed for the 2026-27 period. The 2025-26 exam was held on December 12, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:15 a.m., at 17 centers and 49 locations, with 100 multiple-choice questions and 13,051 places for 122,632 applicants—approximately nine candidates per place. Merit was determined by multiplying the average score on the SSC by eight and the average score on the HSC by twelve, adding them to the written exam score, with a three-point deduction for candidates who passed the HSC the previous year.
Those are last year’s rules. Wait for this year’s circular before assuming any of them carry over.
What candidates should do now
- Do not book anything around 4 December until the circular is published
- If you are also applying to Dhaka University, note the 5 December start and plan for consecutive days
- Watch the directorate’s website, not aggregator sites, which will publish a date before one exists
- Keep your SSC and HSC marksheets to hand. GPA has counted towards the merit score in past cycles
