Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged children to take part in sports and cultural activities alongside their studies. He made the remarks at the Bangladesh Shishu Academy on Tuesday, October 6. The event marked Children’s Rights Day 2026 and the academy’s 50th anniversary.
He said children should grow up as good human beings. He also urged them to be kind to all living creatures. He asked them to care for the environment and nature.
Tarique Rahman said children should take part in singing, Quran recitation, sports and cultural activities. He said these activities can help children develop good qualities.
Children welcomed the prime minister when he arrived at the academy. The programme then began with the national anthem.
His wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, attended the event. She is the Vice Chairman of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation. Women and Children’s Affairs Minister Professor Dr A Z M Zahid Hossain chaired the event.
The prime minister watched cultural performances by the children. He later joined a photo session with those who performed. He also answered questions from the children.
Children from different parts of the country spoke with him through video conference. The prime minister later visited a drawing exhibition by children. He also visited the photo gallery at the Children’s Museum building.
On the ground floor, he inaugurated a solar panel system and a substation. Earlier, children gave him a commemorative gift.
He also unveiled the cover of a special souvenir publication. The publication is titled ‘Shaishab’ (Childhood). The theme of this year’s event is ‘Let the Future of Children Be Secure.’
