Bangladesh Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon has announced that the SSC Exam 2027 will be held in January. He also said the national education curriculum will be changed from 2028.

The minister announced on Wednesday while speaking at an exchange meeting held at Azimpur Girls School and College in Dhaka ahead of the upcoming HSC and equivalent examinations.

The meeting brought together centre secretaries from the Dhaka, Mymensingh, Madrasah, and Technical Education Boards.

Explaining the decision, the minister said the government wants to reduce delays in students’ academic progress. He noted that a large amount of study time is lost when public examinations are held later than planned.

“If you think differently, then in the case of nearly 2 million students combined in SSC and HSC, about 4 million academic years are lost,” he said. “We must realize that this delays the country’s demographic dividend. It is the responsibility of the Ministry of Education to coordinate this time.”

Milon said the government considered different options before setting the examination schedule. However, consultations with students, parents, and teachers led to the decision to complete the SSC examination before Ramadan and Eid.

“We held meetings with parents and took opinions from all stakeholders, including students, teachers, and parents,” he said. “They said it would be better to complete the examinations before Ramadan and Eid. Based on everyone’s opinions, we have taken this decision.”

The minister also reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy against cheating and question paper leaks during public examinations.

He warned that any student found carrying cheating materials during the upcoming HSC examination could face detention or legal action. He added that if cheating is detected at any examination centre, the head of the institution or the centre chief could also face legal consequences.

According to the minister, traditional forms of cheating have decreased, but new methods have emerged. He said the existing Examination Act has been amended to address current challenges.

“There will be no leniency regarding cheating and question paper leaks,” he said.

The meeting was also attended by Dhaka-7 Member of Parliament Hamidur Rahman, Dhaka Education Board Chairman Professor Aktaruzzaman, and Secretary Professor S. M. Kamal Uddin Haider.

The Ministry of Education is expected to provide further details on the 2027 SSC examination schedule and the planned curriculum changes in the coming years.
