Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Sylhet will hold its entrance exam for the first year of the 2026-27 academic cycle on January 26 and 27, 2027.
The notice was published Thursday evening, signed by Acting Registrar Kalam Ahmed Chowdhury. The dates were agreed upon at a meeting of the university’s admissions committee. Schedules, the application process, and unit-specific details will be published in a subsequent notice.
This is the full announcement for now. Any other information you find regarding admission to SUST at this stage—number of places, GPA requirements, application quotas, grade distribution—pertains to last year and has not been confirmed for this cycle.
Where it sits in the season
SUST is the ninth university to fix a date for 2026-27. The calendar as it now stands:
- 5 to 26 December 2026 — Dhaka University, across five unit dates
- 17 and 18 December — Khulna University
- 18 and 19 December — MIST
- 1 to 23 January 2027 — Jagannath University, across four unit dates
- 8 January — KUET
- 8, 9 and 16 January — Rajshahi University, still preliminary
- 14 January — RUET, described as a probable date
- 26 and 27 January — SUST
- 29 January to 8 February — Chattogram University
Three days, two corners of the country
The SUST entrance exam ends on January 27. Chattogram University begins its Unit C, the science exam, on January 29.
For a science applicant trying to get into both universities—and many will, since SUST is one of the best science and technology options outside of Dhaka—this means taking an exam in Sylhet and another in Chattogram just one day apart. These cities are on opposite sides of the country, and there’s no convenient way to make that trip in a single day.
Those in this situation should book their travel for the January period, well before applications open, not after the previous exam results are released.
A mid-week test
One detail nobody has flagged: 26 and 27 January 2027 fall on a Tuesday and Wednesday.
Almost all other entrance exams this season are held on Fridays or Saturdays, days when candidates and their families can travel more easily. A midweek exam in Sylhet involves transportation, accommodation, and, for those still attending university, two days off to plan for.
What to do now
- Watch for SUST’s detailed notice. Applications, units and eligibility are all still unpublished
- If Chattogram University is also on your list, decide now whether you can realistically sit both, because the gap is one day
- Ignore GPA cut-offs and seat figures circulating under this announcement. They are from the previous session
- Keep the wider calendar in view. Application windows for several of these universities open in November, and each fee is separate and non-refundable
The trend observed this season is noteworthy. Nine universities have already published their application dates, and all have done so before releasing admission requirements, fees, or the number of places available. Applicants are being asked to plan months in advance before knowing if they qualify for half of the available places.
Rising Barta will report SUST’s detailed admission notice, including units, eligibility and the application window, when the university publishes it.
