Government and private primary and secondary schools and madrasas across Bangladesh will reopen on Monday, October 26, after a long holiday break. Colleges, however, will remain closed until the end of October and resume classes on Sunday, November 1.
The information comes from sources at the Ministry of Education and the annual holiday calendars of educational institutions. The holiday period included Durga Puja, Lakshmi Puja and a government-declared holiday.
Schools and madrasas resume regular classes
The holidays for primary and secondary schools and madrasas began on October 18. Before that, these institutions were closed on October 16 and 17 for the weekly holidays on Friday and Saturday.
Although the declared holiday period ended on October 22, institutions remained closed on October 23 and 24 for the weekly holidays. Sunday, October 25, is also a holiday for Lakshmi Puja. As a result, teachers and students received 10 consecutive days off before classes resume on Monday.
Colleges to reopen on November 1
Government and private colleges will have a longer holiday break than schools and madrasas. According to the annual holiday calendar for colleges, the holidays for Durga Puja, Vijaya Dashami, Prabarana Purnima and Lakshmi Puja began on October 18.
The scheduled holiday period will end on October 29. Colleges will then remain closed on October 30 and 31 for the weekly holidays on Friday and Saturday. Regular classes are scheduled to resume across the country on Sunday, November 1.

School and madrasa students should return to their regular classes on October 26. College students will have to wait until November 1 to resume their academic activities.
