SSC-Failed Students Seek Special Exam to Secure College Admission

Students have urged education authorities to arrange a supplementary examination this year or allow unsuccessful candidates to enter Class XI and retake the exam next year.

Students who failed the SSC and equivalent examinations in 2026 have called for a special supplementary examination within the current year. They want students who pass the exam to be allowed to enroll in Class XI during the same academic year.

The students raised their demands at a press conference on Thursday, October 22, at the Dhaka Reporters Unity. The event was organised under the banner of the SSC 2026 Student Rights Movement Bangladesh.

Students seek a second chance

The students said that failing the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination should not end a student’s educational journey. They noted that many unsuccessful candidates now face uncertainty about their future, while their parents and guardians are also worried.

They called on the relevant authorities to provide students with a fair opportunity to improve their results. According to the students, a single examination result should not unnecessarily disrupt a student’s education.

The group said it was not seeking special treatment that would break existing rules. Instead, it wants an education-friendly solution that considers students’ circumstances and allows them to continue their studies.

Alternative proposal for Class XI admission

The students have proposed an alternative if the authorities cannot arrange a special supplementary examination this year. Under this proposal, students who failed the SSC examination should be allowed to enroll in Class XI and sit for the supplementary examination the following year while studying in college.

They said this approach could reduce the risk of students losing an entire academic year. They also called for coordinated action and timely policy decisions from the relevant authorities.

Five key demands placed before authorities

The students presented five specific demands at the press conference.

First, they called for a special supplementary examination within 2026 for students who failed the SSC examination. They also asked the authorities to publish clear guidelines on the syllabus, mark distribution, question format, evaluation process and eligibility requirements.

Second, they urged the authorities to announce the examination schedule early enough for students to prepare. They also called for the examination and result publication processes to be completed quickly.

Third, they demanded the necessary policy and administrative measures to ensure that students who pass the special examination can enroll in Class XI during the current academic year.

Finally, if an examination cannot be held this year because of unavoidable circumstances, they want unsuccessful candidates to receive permission to enter Class XI. They also want these students to be allowed to take the supplementary examination the following year while continuing their college studies.

Students call for timely decisions

The students described their initiative as peaceful and constructive. They said their main goal was to protect students’ educational opportunities and prevent a single examination result from creating a long-term setback.

They urged the relevant authorities to take decisions in time so that unsuccessful candidates can get another opportunity to demonstrate their abilities.

The demands now call for consideration by the relevant education authorities. No decision on the proposed special supplementary examination or the alternative admission arrangement was stated in the information provided.
