The three-day divisional event features 1,126 student-athletes from 33 colleges across Khulna Division.
The National University’s Khulna Divisional Inter-College Sports Competition-2026 began on Thursday, October 8, in Khulna. The opening took place at Government Brajalal (BL) College.
A total of 1,126 student-athletes are taking part. They come from 33 colleges across Khulna Division. The group has 782 male students and 344 female students.
All the athletes won gold at the district level. They also finished first in their events. They have now moved to the divisional stage.
The event has 66 sports events. These include football, cricket, volleyball, kabaddi, swimming and athletics. The three-day event will end on October 10.
The National University’s Department of Physical Education and Culture is holding the event. It is part of the “Learning with Happiness” programme.
Bangladesh National Parliament Whip Rakibul Islam Bakul was the chief guest. He is also the MP for Khulna-3. National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A. S. M. Amanullah chaired the opening.
The event began with a balloon release. Students, teachers and sports fans joined the opening. The field had a festive mood as the athletes prepared for their events.
Bakul said students need modern and skills-based education. He said this is important in today’s world. He also praised the university for its work on skills-based courses.
Bakul said sports help students stay healthy. He said they also build confidence and discipline. Sports can also teach teamwork and respect for rules.
Amanullah said students need more than classroom study. He said sports can teach discipline, teamwork and leadership. They also help students learn how to accept both wins and losses.
The vice-chancellor said the university is giving more focus to sports and culture. He said the “Learning with Happiness” programme aims to give students a joyful place to learn. It also aims to help them develop their talents.
Amanullah announced a Language and Career Club for BL College students. He also urged the college to propose new courses. These may include Tourism and Hospitality Management, Executive MBA and BBA.
He said the university is also working on reforms. The goal is to build a stronger and better institution. The university is also working on green campuses.
The plan includes solar panels at affiliated colleges. The “One Student, One Tree” programme will also support this effort.
Students who win gold at the divisional level will reach the national stage. The divisional competition will end with the final on October 10.
