The institutions have been asked to explain by October 1 why their academic approval should not be cancelled.
The Bangladesh Technical Education Board has issued show-cause notices to 86 diploma-level educational institutions for not conducting student admissions for the past three years.
The notice was issued on Tuesday, September 22. The institutions have been asked to explain by October 1 why action should not be taken against them.
The affected institutions offer Diploma in Engineering, Diploma in Textile and Diploma in Agriculture programmes under the Bangladesh Technical Education Board.
According to the notice, the approval conditions for conducting academic activities require an institution to admit students regularly. The approval may be cancelled if an institution does not admit students for three consecutive years.
The board referred to Rule 5.4 of the Policy-2020 on the establishment, operation and recognition of private technical educational institutions at the diploma level.
The policy includes several requirements for institutions. These cover academic results, infrastructure, teachers and employees, management committees, furniture, equipment and library facilities.
The notice also said institutions must meet the conditions set when approval to conduct academic activities was granted. Other applicable requirements must also be fulfilled.
As the 86 institutions have not conducted student admission activities for three years, the board has sought explanations from them.
They have been asked to explain why their admission activities should not be suspended from the 2027–28 academic year. They must also explain why their approval to conduct academic activities should not be cancelled or withdrawn.
The institutions must submit their explanations to the Bangladesh Technical Education Board by October 1. The board will then take further action according to the applicable rules and policy.
