Subheadline: A teachers’ sit-in is also continuing as CUET staff seek the reinstatement of Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem.

The student movement demanding the reinstatement of Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) has entered its 13th consecutive day. A teachers’ sit-in is also continuing as teachers, officers and employees press the same demand.

CUET Assistant Professor Samiun Basir said representatives of the CUET Teachers’, Officers’ and Employees’ Association held a cordial and productive discussion with relevant senior government authorities yesterday.

During the meeting, the representatives formally presented the current situation at CUET. They also explained their demand to reinstate Professor Dr. Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem as vice-chancellor.

The representatives also presented several arguments and practical considerations in support of their demand. Basir said the government authorities listened to their statements with patience and gave them sufficient time to explain the situation.

He said the authorities took the representatives’ statements seriously.

“We hope that, after properly considering the issues presented, the relevant authorities will take a positive decision to restore normal academic activities and stability at CUET,” Basir said.

Meanwhile, normal academic activities at the university remain disrupted due to the student movement. The protesters have said they will continue their programmes until their demands are met.

The teachers’ sit-in and other programmes by CUET teachers, officers and employees are also continuing. The next step will depend on the decision of the relevant government authorities.
