Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) in Tangail held a training session on Wednesday, October 7. The session focused on data collection methods to assess students’ skill development needs.
The university’s Student Welfare and Counseling Center arranged the session at 10:30 a.m. It was held in the conference room of Academic Building-3.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A.B.M. Shahidul Islam joined the event as chief guest. He said students need useful skills along with academic study to meet changes in the global job market.
He said MBSTU plans to give more focus to skill development over the next year. Plans include an AI Center and a Language Institute, he said.
The vice-chancellor also said students will have chances to gain technical, language and other practical skills. The university has started work on agreements with ministries and departments in Bangladesh. It is also working with groups and institutions abroad.
He said work is under way to improve the university’s position in education, research and skill development. He called for support from teachers, officers, staff and students.
Tarikul Kabir, managing director of DPDS, spoke as the resource person. Professor Dr. Md. Fazlul Karim, director of the Student Welfare and Counseling Center, chaired the event.
Students from different departments took part in the training. The session will help the university collect data on the skills students need. This data will guide future plans.
