The film ‘Manob’ focuses on the struggles of displaced people and human crises.
Students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have won the ‘UNHCR X DI Mobile Filmmaking Workshop 2026’. Their short film, ‘Manob’, was named champion. The result was announced on September 11 at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB).
JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Nurul Islam congratulated the students and film crew. The JU Public Relations Office shared the news in a press release on Wednesday, October 7.
The Vice-Chancellor said the win was a source of joy and pride for the university. He said the students used film to show the struggles of displaced people. They also focused on human crises.
He said the success shows their creative skills and care for people. He also praised their work in film and art.
Professor Nurul Islam hoped JU students would keep raising key social issues. He said they could do so through art, books, culture and film.
The workshop began on June 5 and ran for two weeks. Students from 20 universities across Bangladesh took part in the first round. Five teams were then chosen to make short films.
Four students from the JU Department of Fine Arts joined the workshop. They were Sadikul Haque Rupom, Sadia Islam Naurin, Robin Hossain Hridoy and Ehad Ahmed Prottay.
The film’s success highlights the students’ work on a key human issue. The Vice-Chancellor said he hoped students would continue such work in future.
