The Chattogram Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education has indicated that the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examination postponed because of floods and bad weather is likely to be held after the remaining scheduled examinations are completed.
The examination scheduled for Wednesday, July 8, was postponed due to the ongoing flood situation and adverse weather conditions in areas under the Chattogram Education Board. Officials said no new date has been fixed yet.
Professor Dr. Parvez Sajjad Chowdhury, Controller of Examinations (On Deputation) at the Chattogram Board, told Rising Barta on Wednesday afternoon that the board has not yet made a decision on the rescheduled date.
“The examination has just been postponed. A new date has not yet been determined. Usually, postponed examinations are held after all the scheduled examinations are completed. A decision on this matter will be announced once it is made,” he said.
The board is also reviewing the situation ahead of the mandatory Information and Communication Technology (ICT) examination scheduled for Saturday, July 11.
Professor Chowdhury said the board has discussed the weather outlook with the Meteorological Department. According to the department, weather conditions are expected to improve after Thursday. He said the next decision will be taken after consultations with the Deputy Commissioners, the Ministry, and other relevant authorities.
While the Chattogram Board postponed Wednesday’s examination, HSC and equivalent examinations under the country’s other general education boards were held according to the previously announced schedule.
On Tuesday, July 7, the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee announced the postponement through a notice signed by Professor Syed Ashfaquzzaman, President of the committee and Chairman of the Dhaka Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education.
The notice said the decision was made after considering the current flood situation and reports submitted by Deputy Commissioners in all districts under the Chattogram Education Board.
The postponement applies to HSC, Alim, HSC (BMT), HSC (Vocational), and Diploma in Commerce examinations scheduled for Wednesday under the Chattogram Education Board. It also covers examinations conducted by the Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board and the Bangladesh Technical Education Board within the Chattogram Education Board’s jurisdiction.
