Students who apply for answer script re-evaluation may receive additional marks, but their existing marks will not decrease this year.
Students dissatisfied with their 2026 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examination results can apply for answer script re-evaluation. The Education Board has confirmed that students’ marks will not be reduced through this year’s process.
However, students who qualify for additional marks after re-evaluation will receive them. The special arrangement applies only to this year. From next year, marks may either increase or decrease following a review.
Professor Syed Akhtaruzzaman, president of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee and chairman of the Dhaka Education Board, shared the information with Dainik Shiksha.com on Wednesday, November 4.
Marks May Increase or Decrease From Next Year
Professor Syed Akhtaruzzaman said the current re-evaluation process is being conducted under a government executive order. A new system has been introduced for this year’s review.
He clarified that marks will not decrease this year under the special arrangement. However, the Education Board may increase marks if the review finds valid reasons.
From next year, the re-evaluation process may allow both increases and decreases in marks. This means students could receive higher or lower marks after their answer scripts are reviewed.
HSC 2026 Pass Rate Falls to 52.12%
A total of 1,240,798 candidates took part in the 2026 HSC and equivalent examinations. Of them, 646,685 candidates passed, while 594,113 failed.
The overall pass rate stood at 52.12 per cent. Last year, the pass rate was 58.83 per cent.
This represents a decline of 6.71 percentage points compared with the previous year. The lower pass rate has made the re-evaluation process important for students who believe their results do not reflect their performance.
