Students from Classes 2 to 9 may face a new two-phase admission test system, with exams possibly starting in the first week of December.
The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) is considering dividing school admission tests into two phases. Students from Classes 2 to 5 would take the first phase, while students from Classes 6 to 9 would take the second phase.
Professor Dr Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel of the DSHE told to the media that the plan has been discussed at an initial stage. However, the proposals have not yet been finalized.
The DSHE is expected to send a proposal to the Ministry of Education. The admission policy will be issued if the ministry approves the proposal.
According to DSHE sources, the admission test for Classes 2 to 5 would carry 50 marks. The test for Classes 6 to 9 would carry 100 marks.
Students in both groups would be tested in Bangla, English and Mathematics. For Classes 2 to 5, Bangla and English would each carry 15 marks, while Mathematics would carry 20 marks.
For Classes 6 to 9, Bangla and English would each carry 30 marks. Mathematics would carry 40 marks.
The test would last one hour for Classes 2 to 5. Students from Classes 6 to 9 would have two hours to complete the test.
A DSHE official told The Sun that schools would conduct the tests under their own arrangements. The DSHE would set a specific timeframe for the process.
Schools would then have to complete the tests and admissions within that period. The official said the process would be similar to admission tests conducted by schools such as Notre Dame and Holy Cross.
The DSHE also plans to complete the collection of information on vacant seats by November. After that, the admission test schedule may be set from the first week of December.
The admission process could then be completed in the second half of December. However, the proposed schedule and test system still require approval from the Ministry of Education.
The final admission policy will be issued after the ministry makes its decision.
